Mental Health Awareness
Every year during the first full week of October, mental health advocates and organizations across the U.S. join together to sponsor a variety of events to promote community outreach and public education concerning mental illnesses, such as major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. For more information, the following websites provide additional resources on specific topics:
National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)

Did you know that the Geriatric Behavioral Medicine Center of San Gabriel Valley Medical Center offers a distinct in-patient program to address the needs of our senior population? Symptoms severe enough to cause disorder, bizarre behavior that interfere with activities of daily living, and/or danger to oneself or others are assessed and treated. Dr. Kuang (Charles) Huang, medical director of the Geriatric Behavioral Medicine Center says, "We have made many strides to stop the stigma about getting help for issues surrounding mental health. We have a long way to go to educate our communities about suicide prevention and treatment for depression."
For more information, contact your physician or the Geriatric Behavioral Medicine Center at (626) 300-7300 for details of appropriate services.
